Soap Trailer Analysis.

Eastenders Christmas 2009 

This was the trailer for Christmas 2009, it is telling the various story's connecting to Archie Mitchell.
The camera shot's are the two conventional soap shots - mid shot and close up, to focus on the facial expressions and body languages of the characters.
We can also see a shot from behind Bradley's shoulder, to show conversation.
The music fits the context of christmas, with the xylophone playing the tune of 'we wish you a merry christmas' - which shows the audience the trailer is for christmas. In addition to this we can see snow on the ground.
With the non-digetic sound we can see a mix of voice over and speech from the show, we can hear the recognisable voice of peggy, and a shot of her peering round a corner, then followed by Phil and Shirley discussing Archie themselves. This is then ended by another voice over from a narrator, telling us when the show will be on, and what channel, so we can see a mix of both voice-overs and character speech.
Throughout the piece we can see the BBC ONE logo in the bottom centre of the screen, this will be something i shall consider in my soap trailer.
  
Eastenders Kat and Alfie

This trailer is very dynamic and unconventional compared to the other Eastenders trailer. Even though it is opened up by a shot of dusty and windswept town, we still know it is Walford because the Queen Victoria Pub still remains in the foreground.
This is then followed by a close up of female legs in cowboy boots being tracked by the camera, which ends up facing her, as she drops a leopard print handbag, from this we can automatically assume it is Kat Slater as the camera runs up her body to meet her face. It then cuts from various characters such as Max and Patrick, until Kat's dialogue comes in about the pub and a drink, for the audience of the show, they would now this means the Queen Vic, which was burned down around the time of the advert. We can then see a mid-shot of Alfie entering, while he puts in his speech.
The non-digetic background sound is that of a western theme, which fits the mise-en-scene of rusty buildings and the characters outfits. This is then ended by the famous 'dun dun dun dun' Eastenders theme tune, when finally ended by a shot of the two characters facing each other, while a narrator says when the show is on.
The last shot is very important because it shows the two main characters, who appear to be in a form of conflict (which is also complimented by the suburban setting and dark lighting) and the channel of the show, even though the audience is already likely to know.

Coronation Street Tony Gordon

This trailer is dark an sinister, the introduction of two police officers shows that it is to be dangerous, and while one of the characters reveals who has returned from prison we can see various mid and close-shots of the involved members. The camera does many cuts from Gordon to the female characters, we can tell he is the villain, due to his up-turned hood and cut face.
The quite baking music, in fierce and fast paced, which indicates the in edge situation in the storyline. This is then ended by a narrator, switching back to the voice-over of Gordon and then back to the narrator, telling of the show time and what it channel it is on.
The final shot is a long shot of the street, showing the ITV logo, the sponsor of the show and exactly when it will be on (it says the time, unlike that of Eastenders).

Eastenders First Trailer

The tailer is opened by various mid-shots of vehicles (mainly Red busses), so we know the show is to be set in London. Along with this is the drum beat theme tune of Eastenders, even though this is not recognisable for the audience, it still introduces the main theme tune.
There are no characters in the whole trailer, which is finished off by another mid-shot of the river Thames just like the one at the start of the show.

Hollyoaks Christmas 2008

The trailer runs on the same basis as all of the above, with mid-shots and close-ups, it has lots of cuts from the characters involved in the developing storyline.
The story is told from dialogue by the characters, so it is digetic, it then ends with a voice over, showing the channel, time and day of showing. Running along this a rock beat, which is very different of the other soaps. These will be something we need to consider for our soap, as we are making it to run on Channel4.

Hollyoaks First Trailer

The trailer is like the one before, we can see mid-shots and close-ups to introduce all the characters, and then long-shots to show them all together. We can see the editing is unconventional in terms of soaps, there is uses of black and white, zooming and various other effects.
The sound is made up of the group talking to each other, while there is no sound in the background or any voice overs. One of the group members then ends the trailer by saying the time and place of the show.
